Originally published by myself on ResetEra, but for those that don’t support the site, or just don’t wanna deal with its numerous ads, I’m making it available here also.
I should also say that grace should be given for all the games on this list, especially indie games. It’s harder than ever to be making games right now, and the industry is cutthroat. The devs of these games would like to see them get released just as much, if not more, than you. So, and I mean this in the least patronising way; be kind and be patient 🙂
.45 Parabellum Bloodhound: Cyberpunk Active Time Action
First revealed: July 3, 2024
Most recent update: February 10, 2026
Today marks the day where every single story event and encounter is now fully playable. A lot of polishing awaits us and don’t get me wrong— it’s a ton of work! but it’s all far more predictable.
No new content will be added, no new sections. Just bug fixing and making things look pretty or play/read better. QOL improvements, optimization, editing, localization. Like I said, it’s a ton, just more predictable.
If everything goes well we’ll divulge a release date in a couple months.
Stay tuned!

Agent (Rockstar’s 1970s cold war spy game) [UNOFFICIALLY CANCELLED]
First revealed: June 2, 2009
Most recent update: October 31, 2025
[1970s Cold War era] was one of the versions. There was another one that was set in current. We had so many different versions of this game.
I don’t think it works. I concluded—and I keep thinking about it sometimes, I sometimes lie in bed thinking about it—I’ve concluded that what makes them really good as film stories makes them not work as video games. We need to think through how to do it in a different way as a video game.
Alien Isolation Sequel
First revealed: October 7, 2024
Most recent update: October 9th, 2025
“I know that everyone wanted to do it,” Dion Lay, co-writer of Alien: Isolation, tells the FRVR Podcast. “I think it was always like, ‘Could it happen?’ But I think that Disney buying Fox made it a lot more possible, just because I think Disney seemed to be doing a push on, like, right let’s get all these IPs and do something with them and get them running again.”
Creative Assembly revealed Isolation 2 in October of last year as part of ten-year anniversary celebrations for the first one. Let’s all agree to show up for this, alright?

Our next step is to continue preparing the remaining data and content, connecting all the pieces together, and further refining the game as a complete experience.
I have been told that delays in updates like this are not uncommon in crowdfunding projects. However, even from my own perspective—someone who is not particularly strict about such things—this situation is difficult to feel comfortable with.
Because of this, I have asked the campaign team to ensure that future updates follow the planned schedule as closely as possible. If we are unable to meet that schedule, we will make sure to clearly explain the reasons why.
Assassin’s Creed: Codename HEXE
First revealed: September 10, 2022

While we know we haven’t shared much about this one yet, it’s being built with great care by our veteran team here at Ubisoft Montreal. Expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history.
You may have seen the recent news: I have recently taken the role of Creative Director for the project, in addition to my new responsibilities as Head of Content.
We are taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a little longer, but we love seeing all the enthusiasm happening on our channels and can’t wait to unveil more when the time is right.

Beyond Good & Evil 2
First revealed: June 12, 2017 (This version at least.)
Most recent update: January 21, 2026
Despite the recent restructuring that has seen six games cancelled, including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, sources tell Insider Gaming that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in active development, at least for the time being.
According to sources, constant changes, pushbacks, and the lengthy development time have likely cost Ubisoft $500+ million in development costs. But, at least for the time being, Ubisoft feels like it’s a cost that is justified.
As for when Beyond Good & Evil 2 will release, it’s anyone’s guess, but it’s possible the game still won’t be seen for a number of years.
BioShock 4
First revealed: December 19, 2019
Most recent update: August 7, 2025
In an interview ahead of 2K parent company Take-Two reporting its latest 2025 quarterly earnings, I asked CEO Strauss Zelnick flat out if BioShock 4 was in danger of being canceled. Zelnick was clear in his response: “It’s going to come out,” he promised. “That I can say hand on heart, without question.”
“We don’t talk about how long our development cycles are,” Zelnick began. “We have had some ups and downs along the way. That is accurate. And we have had changes in studio leadership. That said, we have very big shoes to fill on BioShock because of the legacy of Ken Levine, the legacy of what has gone before, which has been so successful. And we need to make sure that this experience is true to the BioShock DNA on the one hand, and a massive step forward on the other hand. That’s always challenging. We think we’re up to the challenge, but it has not been seamless.”

Development on Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth hasn’t been an easy ride since its initial announcement three years ago. Back in September 2024, it was revealed by a report on IGN that the entire development team for the project had quit, although at the time it was stated that development on the project would still continue.
“The whole situation is a baffler, but now we’re focused on moving forward. We’ve had really great conversations with an overwhelming majority of our existing development teams and are grateful for their partnership,” said Annapurna Interactive at the time.

According to Sega, the company plans “to release four major new titles for mainstay IPs”.
It will also “maximize title potential through enhancement of ‘sales capabilities’” and continue to expand its transmedia business by using its game IP in other mediums such as film, TV or books.
While Sega didn’t give any further information on which series it’s referring to, the term “major new titles for mainstay IPs” suggests it will likely be releasing a high-budget Sonic game during this period.
Crowsworn

Most recent update: November 12, 2025
Just yesterday they sent a KS update saying they’re in a stage of working the innards of the game, so there isn’t much to share in terms of content that could be of interest; BUT apparently things are coming along fine.
They do mention exciting news soon, but I’m not really holding my breath: they keep insisting on not even hinting at a release date, and they paywalled the demo; and those are really the only two things I would care about.
Frankly, gorgeous though the game looks, Crowsworn was the project that made me tighten my requirements when it comes to crowdfunding. Basically it goes: No demo = No backing.

Like so many of our peers, we aren’t immune to the complex, unfavorable market dynamics that have hit our industry these past several years. It pains me greatly to share today that we must lay off an estimated 15% of our around 400 employees. The layoffs affect development teams and shared services.
This has not been an easy decision to make, as we deeply appreciate the hard work of our talented teams. After putting the development of the next Crysis game on hold in Q3 2024, we have been trying to shift developers over to Hunt: Showdown 1896.

Haunted Chocolatier
First revealed: October 8, 2021
Most recent update: January 29, 2026
In a new blog posted to the official Haunted Chocolatier website, Barone dispelled a number of myths and rumors that have popped up about him and his work on the upcoming game, admitting: “I know, I know, I shouldn’t have announced the game so early. But I had my reasons.” He added that Haunted Chocolatier will release “when it’s done.”
Responding to reports that the game will be abandoned entirely and possibly folded into Stardew Valley, Barone shut that down completely, writing: “No. First, I am not going to abandon Haunted Chocolatier. But even if I did, I am not going to add it to Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley and Haunted Chocolatier are separate games. It doesn’t even make sense from a technical perspective, as Haunted Chocolatier is written from scratch, it’s not the same ‘engine’ as Stardew Valley. You can’t just copy and paste Haunted Chocolatier into Stardew Valley.”

First revealed: September 20, 2022
Most recent update: April 14, 2025
[…] a job listing for EA Motive’s Iron Man has outed new details about the single-player action game.
As noted in the level designer advert, EA Motive is looking for someone who can ‘design and build major single-player levels, within the project’s creative constraints’.
The listing also calls for ‘experience in single-player action RPG games’, which is the first mention we’ve had of any role-playing mechanics (even if it will likely just mean some sort of skill tree.
Development on Iron Man is being led by Olivier Proulx, who previously worked on the acclaimed Guardians Of The Galaxy game for Square Enix. No footage has been shown, yet but the studio apparently hit a ‘major internal milestone’ on the project last year.

The Last Night
First revealed: October 28, 2014
Most recent update: A generative AI disclaimer was added to the Steam store page for it within the last year or so. Developer’s also a chud. Play REPLACED instead.
The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:
The Last Night’s city is split in half—a stark contrast between the “old world,” resembling our society today, and the “new world,” an AI-designed, optimized, and meticulously run district.
Given the game’s premise and the city layout, we intentionally use generative AI to conceptualize unique architectural patterns and details for the new district. These AI-generated designs reflect the efficiency and alien logic of a world shaped by AI. However, every piece is carefully redrawn in pixel art by human artists to ensure consistency with the game’s handcrafted aesthetic and visual identity.

For starters, according to the official document, the project is currently in full production. In development terms, this means the game is being actively built from the ground up.
While this is a somewhat timid update, it is also a pleasant surprise given that we weren’t even sure if the core production phase had officially kicked off yet. But as encouraging as that sounds, what really caught everyone’s attention happened during the Q&A session following the report.
At the 31:50 mark of the video presentation, Markus Mäki, Remedy’s interim CEO, dropped a surprising declaration that explains exactly why Remedy has been so silent about the remakes. “Unfortunately, the Max Payne communications are all driven by Rockstar,” Mäki stated. “So we are working on it hard, so that’s all I can say.”

Most recent update: June 18, 2025
We’re focused on .45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND at the moment. After that game ships we’ll update on the state of N1rvannA.
All in all, I’m determined to make it happen. Sam’s story is still so far ahead of anything else in the industry it’d be a huge loss to the medium if it didn’t release. Also, I’m bummed as hell at our lack of commercial releases after VA-11 Hall-A, but my aim with both .45PB and N1rvannA is to finally settle on a process to ship games faster, and make our second decade the start of the Sukeban Millennium.
Outlast 3
First revealed: December 7, 2017
Most recent update: March 1, 2024
The inevitable question arose: Why did the developers start working on The Outlast Trials instead of diving into the eagerly awaited Outlast 3? Was this strategic move driven by a quest for the more sustained revenue of a multiplayer title?
Morin provided insight: “Well, we would have been able to ship out Outlast 3 much quicker than this.” he said reflecting on the six years it’s taken to develop The Outlast Trials. “No, we were actually a bit fed up. So we took maybe four to five months, the guys were switching to Unreal 4 so they needed to use the new tech. We were brainstorming ideas, and eventually because with every project we like to try and give ourselves new challenges, like trying to be more narrative with Outlast 2 than 1, this time it was multiplayer.”
[…] If we’d have known it would have taken 6 years then maybe we would have done Outlast 3 first, but then again we’re super happy with what we have today so I think it was worth it.”

Shuhei Yoshida, the former indie boss at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said during an interview earlier this year after leaving Sony that The Last Guardian would likely have been cancelled if it had a different publisher. The game was notoriously for its lengthy production cycle, having first been announced at E3 2009 and not seeing the light of day until 2016.

Most recent (concrete) update: December 23, 2025
Founder and CEO Chris Roberts wrote in a blog post that CIG is focusing on quality and polish as it moves toward an internal beta milestone and, eventually, a full release for Squadron 42 at some point next year.
“We’re confident in the direction the game is headed and are fully focused on delivering,” Roberts said. “We know many of you are eager to play, and we’re looking forward to putting it in your hands. We don’t plan on a long, drawn-out marketing campaign as we’ve already done our share of trailers and gameplay previews. When it’s time, you (and the rest of the gaming world) will hear a lot more from us.”

As features/content in the 1.0 column become ready, they will migrate left into a point patch column for release.
Be sure to check back every two weeks for the latest updates.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake
First revealed: September 9, 2021
Most recent update: March 6, 2026
In a chat with Tim Willits, chief creative officer at Saber Interactive, IGN once again broached the status of the ill-fated remake of BioWare’s 2003 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was first announced at a PlayStation Showcase in 2021 before, in technical game-dev terms, falling down a well. Willits was taciturn, but he said the line: “Yes, it is still in development. That’s all I can say.”
Star Wars: Eclipse

As first mentioned during the latest episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, development on Star Wars Eclipse has been “very slow going”. One source even mentioned the fact that the team had been making “very little progress over months.” For what it’s worth, a good portion of the game has been completed, but, for what they still need to wrap up, sources say it hasn’t been going all that well.
“The game is still looking to be years off from completion,” one source said back in December.

In the immediate future, the game is coming to Crunchyroll Vault, which is very exciting for a new audience to be able to experience it. In addition, Steins;Gate is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Japan. So, we have some live events and live programming planned around that. Beyond those, I think it’s already been announced, but there is a sequel to which we are putting the concepts together right now, and my task is then to take this concept and translate it into a scenario for the game.
Stranded Deep 2
First revealed: August 17, 2024
Most recent update: December 19, 2025
We’re planning an internal game jam to start the year. The team recently spent some time workshopping ideas and thinking outside-the box to come up with innovative mechanics they might add to the game. We’ll use the game jam to see how these ideas could be executed. This is also part of our efforts to keep the spirit of our small indie studio and speedy workflows in a larger production schedule as we grow bigger. I’m looking forward to it.
Streets of Rage: Revolution
First revealed: December 8, 2023
Most recent update: February 13, 2026 [Streets of Rage: Revolution could be one of the four new games in ‘mainstay IPs’ that release within the next year.]
Streets of Rogue 2
First revealed: August 22, 2023
Most recent update: December 5, 2025
The Short Version!
- Streets of Rogue 2 remains in very active development!
- It’s taking a bit longer than anticipated because SOR2 is a very complex game being programmed and largely designed by a single person (me).
- These factors led to my underestimating the time it would take to get the game into Early Access while meeting my quality standard, resulting in a couple of missed release dates last year.
- We’ll announce a release date only when I’m 100% sure I can meet that date.
Subnautica 2
First revealed: April 7, 2022
Most recent update: March 16, 2026
In a statement, Krafton said it disagreed with the ruling, and that Subnautica 2 would be released “as soon as possible”.
“Krafton puts players at the heart of every decision, and that will never change,” it said. “Over the past several months, Krafton and the Unknown Worlds team have worked tirelessly to strengthen the game and prepare it for an Early Access release, with a continued focus on delivering the best possible experience for the Subnautica community. We look forward to pushing out the newly updated version as soon as possible for players.
“While we respectfully disagree with today’s ruling, we are evaluating our options as we determine our path forward. Today’s ruling does not resolve the former executives’ claim for damages or an earnout related to Subnautica 2, with further litigation still pending. In the meantime, Krafton’s immediate focus remains unchanged: delivering the best possible game to Subnautica’s fans.”
Splinter Cell Remake

Speaking during the New Game+ Showcase 2026, Gerighty said: “So, The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret. It’s been announced. It’s shaping up to be a monster. I can’t really say anything more than that. But this is, within these walls in Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.”
System Shock 3

Most recent update: March 28, 2025
“The situation around System Shock 3 is very complicated,” Nightdive’s director of business development Larry Kuperman hedged at GDC this week, in comments published by VGC.
Can we expect a proper update anytime soon? “Not as yet, not as yet,” Kuperman went on. “I don’t know when it’s going to clarify, but it could potentially be within a year. It could be, or it could take longer. That said, what I can say is that we have visions of what we can do within what we control.”
TEKKEN X Street Fighter [SHELVED. COULD BE PICKED BACK UP IN THE FUTURE?]
First revealed: July 24, 2010
Most recent update: August 5, 2025
Of course, ending the interview, I wouldn’t be satisfied if I didn’t ask Harada about TEKKEN X Street Fighter and keep the question tradition alive. So, of course, I asked him, and was surprised to get an answer from Harada about the game.
“It’s hard to say if that’s even a thing. I mean, it depends on what people are wanting as well. That said, I would like to show people what we already have. That would be cool if we could do that. We were 30 percent into development, so fingers crossed.”

But while scrolling out of boredom, I came across a LinkedIn article from Black Forest Games’s CEO about the status of the game.

He also said that a Switch 2 is possible as he said that they have multiple of ports lined up.
To clarify, he does not specifically mention The Last Ronin but it is a good chance that this game will see the light of day.

Coming by way of Noble Securities, which is a Polish investment company that often covers CD Projekt and its stock, it was claimed that The Witcher Remake is now set to launch in 2028. This release window was said to have been delayed by a year, which means that CDPR was previously targeting an arrival in 2027. However, Fool’s Theory is said to also be assisting with work on The Witcher 4, which has led to work on The Witcher Remake falling behind.

The Wolf Among Us 2
First revealed: December 13, 2019
Most recent update: September 17, 2025
Put on the spot, Herman continued: “We wrote a season, Season Two. We think it’s better than Season One – and we were on Season One. And yeah, we’re really proud of it. We were doing tests. We were in cinematics and animation and stuff. And then basically they needed more time.
“They weren’t… We weren’t running the project. It was Telltale we were doing it in partnership with. And we couldn’t wait around and do nothing, so we had to move on to Dispatch to keep the studio moving, and they needed to go their own way.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what they do with it,” Herman added. “I don’t know how much of our version of the script is going to make it into what they end up making. But if one day we were able to make the thing that we wrote and were in the middle of directing, we think people would love it. So, you know, good luck.”

For now, Gardiner and his skeleton crew are continuing to shop Wyrdsong around, looking for the deal that will allow all of their art, lore and design to amount to something. To ensure that Something Wicked doesn’t go the way of the Templars. “I’ve been fortunate to work on a bunch of games, but this is the first game that was really my baby from whole cloth,” Gardiner says. “So the risk of it never seeing the light of day, it makes me sad. That’s why I’m working really hard to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
